The Whole Story behind the Masonic Stone:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Almost nobody noticed when passing by Rauhensteingasse 3, a stone hanging above the door, even though the street is actually named after this spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stone is hanging from a metal hook above the entrance Grand Lodge of Austria.<\/a> This stone symbolizes in Freemasonry the imperfection of man becoming a perfect stone that fits into the wall of the Temple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However the stone is not the only symbol present on this spot, the door is also full of symbols. It is decorated with geometrical forms, that create an octagon that resembles the Sun, a symbol of growth. There is no handle at the door, only three golden knockers representing the signs, words, handshake that make Freemasons recognize one another. Number 3 dominates in Freemasonry.<\/a> But there is more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vertical line when the door is closed represents a plumb line, the horizontal the base of a triangle (these were tools that builders of cathedrals used in medieval times from where Freemasonry gets its traditions) as well as squares and compasses as patterns in the door, also used as a technique in cathedral construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were seven stairs to the Temple of Salomon<\/a>, and there are seven stone blocks on each side of the door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
